Janelle spent many of her adolescent years in Michigan City and currently resides in Valparaiso. Janelle’s past work experiences include nonprofit management, administration and program support management, mental and behavioral health therapy, and developmental disability support. In addition to her commitment to the Chamber, Janelle is a gymnastics instructor for the Valparaiso Gymnastics Club.
Janelle is a graduate of Valparaiso High School where she competed on the gymnastics team and attended Purdue University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree, majoring in Behavioral Sciences. Janelle is a graduate of Leadership La Porte County and has been a licensed IHSAA gymnastics official for 11 years. She has received the IHSAA Gymnastics State Finals Tournament “Excellence in Officiating” Honor in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Janelle was also awarded the “Instructor Certification” upon completion of the USA Gymnastics University School of Competitive Gymnastics Certificate Program.
Janelle is a member of the Lakefront Career Network (LCN) Committee, the young professional’s division of the Michigan City Chamber, and is an active volunteer for a variety of organizations both in the La Porte and Porter County areas. She has also attended Lake Owen Gymnastics Camp where she had the honor to coach alongside two-time Olympic medalist, Courtney Kupets.
Janelle spends much of her spare time with her English Bulldog, Nala, or going on adventures with friends and family.
Katie is a lifelong resident in the Michigan City area and has a passion for the growing and vibrant community. Katie’s past work experiences include economic development, workforce development, nonprofit management, community development, program management, volunteer/employee recruitment, fundraising, and marketing.
Katie is a graduate of Michigan City High School and attended Purdue University Northwest where she obtained her bachelor’s degree, majoring in English and Communications and later her Master’s in Business Administration. Katie is a graduate of Leadership La Porte County, has received a certificate of completion from Ball State University’s Center for Community Economic Development program, and has completed the first of a four-year program toward obtaining her Institute of Organizational Management certification.
Katie is a current board member for the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City, an active member of the Michigan City Rotary Club, a member of the Vibrant Communities of La Porte County Housing Taskforce and Steering Committee, and an active volunteer in her community for a variety of organizations. She was listed in the NWI Times 20 Under 40 for 2018 and received the NWI Influential Women Award in the category of Up & Coming in Economic Development in that same year. She lives in La Porte County with her husband Jeff and their three children. Outside of work, Katie spends much of her time with her family and supporting her children’s activities such as baseball, theater, and music.
