2021 New Teacher Luncheon to be held on August 6th at Blue Chip Casino

The Lakefront Career Network (LCN) will be hosting the Annual New Teacher Luncheon on August 6th in Blue Chip’s Suncoast room. LCN, the young professionals committee of the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce, adjusted last year’s event due to COVID-19 and was unable to hold it in-person. “We are glad to be back in person this year to welcome and thank our educators at the start of the new school year,” state Chamber President, Katie Eaton.

New teachers and administrators from Michigan City public and parochial schools will be treated to lunch and welcomed to the community by local businesses and organizations. The Presenting Sponsor for the event this year is Purdue University Northwest, who will welcome the educators and introduce Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, Superintendent of Michigan City Area Schools. Dr. Eason-Watkins will address the new teachers, offering words of inspiration and wisdom as they begin the new school year.

Matt Weber, 2021 LCN Chair, stated, “The Lakefront Career Network is extremely excited for the return of the New Teacher Luncheon this year. There is no underscoring the importance of our teachers and the lifelong impact they make on the youth in our community. It is vital to attract and retain the best educators and demonstrate to them that the efforts and service they put forth is not only appreciated but applauded. On behalf of the LCN, MC Chamber, and the local businesses that donated and offered their support – we welcome all of the new teachers and thank them for their commitment to our children and community!”

Lakefront Career Network is seeking additional sponsors for the event to assist in providing the lunch for all educators in attendance. Gift bags will be handed out to each new teacher in attendance to show the community’s appreciation. A variety of items will be included in the bags and donations are being accepted for these as well. Items to donate can include branded items, discounts, coupons, gift certificates, resource material, etc.

The New Teacher Luncheon is open to the public. If you are interested in sponsoring the event, supporting the lunch for an educator, attending, or donating items please contact Janelle at 219-874-6221 or jelwood@mcachamber.com.
