J.D. Flynn is a freelance and full-time web developer and founder of Open Door Coworking in La Porte. A graduate of Ivy Tech State College, J.D. holds an Associates of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems with a technical certificate in Website Management and a paramedic license.
J.D. has been developing websites as a hobby since the early 90s, but decided to take it to a professional level in 2013 after a long career as a paramedic and EMT. Although he has been freelancing since 2013 while working as a paramedic, he decided to go full-time and took a job in Chicago as a web application programmer using the content management system Drupal. During his time in Chicago he attended several tech meetups and met several other developers and was introduced to the concept of a coworking space. In 2015 he took a fully remote position and, after finding the difficulties of working from home, decided to bring a coworking space to La Porte County and opened Open Door Coworking.
As founder of Open Door Coworking, J.D. began hosting several Meetups a month at Open Door Coworking including a tech-focused meetup, a freelancer and entrepreneur meetup, and a tabletop gaming meetup, all held monthly.
As a web developer, J.D. has worked on several high-profile sites including sites for Branson, MO, Mammoth Lakes, CA, and Sonoma County, CA.
J.D. lives in La Porte County with his wife, Jennifer, their two children, Kaylee and Malcolm, 3 dogs, and cat. He also plays French Horn with the Valparaiso Community/University Concert Band.
