Hello LCN people! As of last September, I am a new resident of Long Beach, along with my husband, Brian. I grew up in Clarendon Hills, just west of Chicago, and I received my Bachelor of Arts in French (Oui!) from Elmhurst College. For the past eleven years my work has been in two non-profit areas – social services and higher education. I’m celebrating eight years in undergraduate admissions at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, where much of my work focuses on communications strategy and events – which I absolutely love doing. And I’m fortunate to have the hardest working staff as my colleagues.
Prior to working at Saint Xavier, I was the director of community relations for the Lincoln Park Community Shelter, a comprehensive social service agency serving men and women experiencing homelessness. So I was delighted to meet Lisa Mathis of Housing Opportunities in Valparaiso and Michigan City at one of the LCN events this fall because I now have the opportunity to serve that organization as a member of the event planning committee for their annual Masquerade Ball! I love all that is happening in the Michigan City area – from restaurants and stores and recreation, to the commitment to ongoing development and community building. I’m proud to call this area my home!
Outside of work, I have been meeting wonderful new friends and exploring all that the lakefront area has to offer. I enjoy hiking the dunes, running, reading, road trips, trying new restaurants and supporting local small businesses. Hopefully soon we’ll be adopting a golden retriever to join us on our adventures. One of my absolute favorite hobbies is baking for friends and families. Who knows, you may even see me sharing my baked goods at the farmers market some day!
