Brian Barkowski and his wife Debbie moved to Long Beach full time just a few months ago. Originally from Chicago’s South Side, Brian grew up in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood before heading off to St. Norbert College in Green Bay, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 1999. Upon graduation, Brian worked for the Beloit Snappers, Class A Affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, in sales, food and beverage, merchandising and finally as the General Manager. In 2004, Brian returned to his alma mater, Brother Rice High School, to take on the role of Development Director. Shifting roles, Brian took over the school’s marketing program as the Marketing Director in 2008. Currently, Brian is the Vice President of Brother Rice, which sees him working with the Institutional Advancement team to raise funds for the school, while still championing their marketing efforts.
In 2008, Brian enrolled in Saint Xavier University’s dual Master’s program where he earned a Master in Applied Computer Science in 2008 and his MBA in 2010. Shortly thereafter, Brian was asked to join SXU’s faculty as an adjunct faculty member, where he teaches marketing and social media. Brian now serves on SXU’s Adjunct Faculty Board. Additionally, he is a board member for the Andrew Weishar Foundation and the Archdiocesan Development Council.
Brian is most passionate about how education, technology, and marketing intersect. Utilizing his work experience and education, he has been able to develop and grow the marketing and social footprint for the organizations where he volunteers, while providing socially driven digital education to students at an early age.
Brian and Debbie could not be more excited to have made the move to Michigan City and are looking forward to getting involved in the community in which they now reside. The city has a long and vibrant history, with more to come from the Michigan City NOW project. The future is so very bright, and Brian and Debbie cannot wait to establish many new relationships with those in their community.
