Michigan City Chamber President Completes Statewide Professional Development Program
Katie Eaton, President of the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce, recently completed the Hoosier Chamber Academy course offered by the Indiana Chamber Executives Association (ICEA). The program consists of eight modules including chamber law; finance; board relations; advocacy; membership; non-dues; marketing/communications; and strategic planning.
“Participation in the Hoosier Chamber Academy provides core competencies to excel in the ever-changing chamber of commerce profession,” said Shelli Williams, IOM, ICEA President. “Chamber professionals are on the economic front-lines for our Indiana communities and ICEA strives to equip all chamber peers with the resources that they need to excel in this profession.”
2020 was the first year that the Academy was held virtually in entirety. Class size is limited to 25 peers and class members are asked to submit resources from their chamber to share with peers as part of the coursework. “Participating in the ICEA Hoosier Chamber Academy gave me the opportunity to interact with my chamber peers from across the state” state Eaton (pictured), “I was able to learn from others and share best practices that will benefit our members and our chamber.” Graduates were honored with completion certificates awarded recently at regional workshops held throughout the state.
