After years of working as a human resource professional/chief operating officer in both health care and business environments, Nora Akins decided to open her own company. Strategic Management – Human Resource Solutions, LLC opened its doors in 2006. The initial focus of the company was to provide companies with anti-harassment and anti-discriminationtraining.
At that time, few employers engaged outside trainers to present live, interactive anti-discrimination training. Thanks to the support and confidence area businesses placed in Akins, her two-part program entitled “Maintaining a Healthy and Respectful Work Environment” has grown to become a business community favorite. Employers recognize the value the training provides to employees; while at the same time reducing the company’s liability of potentially costly litigation. Akins also developed a program that has twice been presented at national training and human resource conferences – “The
Supervisor Game.” The game teaches supervisors how to respond to potentially litigious statements
The company strives to develop respectful employee relations skills in supervisors. A step to achieving
this is a public course entitled “What All Supervisors Should Know.” Akins develops various training
courses to meet employers’ specific needs. She recently completed a six-part series that an area firm
used to engage and retain its best talent.
Several companies have utilized Strategic Management’s expertise in establishing human resource
departments; as well as refining existing departments. Refining an HR department involves: developing
or refining a company handbook, evaluating/updating personnel policies, procedures and job
descriptions. To date, Akins has developed handbooks for 38 area businesses and provided job

Akins’ client base is in LaPorte County, she has written articles that have been published in The News-
Dispatch, Herald Argus, LinkedIn and Huffington Post.
Today, Strategic Management focuses on performance consulting. The approach draws from all of the
