Kristen Patterson, native of Michigan City, has worked as Director of the Grace Learning Center, a program of Citizens Concerned for the Homeless, since October of 2012. Her background includes a secondary education degree from the University of Nebraska and seven years of teaching in Clark County School District located in Nevada. While there, Kristen taught seventh and eighth grade English and was the department chair for four years.
At Grace Learning Center, she and a host of volunteers work with community residents to increase their education and lower risk of homelessness and poverty.
Through the partnerships of her childhood and those created since she moved home through her position as director, Kristen maintains active community involvement. She is a part of Home Team (Continuum of Care) coalition, is an Hours for Hours mentor, volunteers at her church, and sits on numerous subcommittees, and advisory councils throughout the region.
Kristen loves Michigan City and is happy to see such collaboration, eagerness, and engagement as the city transforms. She loves spending time with her mom and grandma, friends, dogs, boyfriend, and numerous teen girls she mentors. Most recently, she is actively in the midst of becoming a foster mom and is busy preparing her home for kids.
