The Dunes Summer Theatre will open the classic thriller, Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott on August 17. The show runs through September 2 with performances every Friday, Saturday at 7 PM CST and Sunday at 2 PM CST at 288 Shady Oak Drive, Michiana Shores, Indiana 46360.
Based on the classic 1967 movie, Wait Until Dark tells the story of Susy Hendrix (played by Kalika Rose), a blind Greenwich Village housewife, who becomes the target of three con-men searching for a doll stuffed with heroin. Her husband Sam (played by Mac Westcott) unwittingly transported the doll home from Canada as a favor to a woman who has since been murdered. Complicating matters, is the fact that Gloria, a precocious little girl living in an apartment upstairs (played by Emma Gordon), has stolen the doll. Intent on retrieving the heroine, con man Harry Roat (played by Derek Ryan Brummet), leads his companion of thugs into thinking they will be rich if they find the doll. They track the doll to Susy’s apartment. While clueless as to why the doll is so valuable, Susy’s instincts tell her to keep the doll away from Roat and his companions. Wait Until Dark was first performed on Broadway in 1966 and has become a classic for theatres. The film version starred Lee Remick as Susy and Robert Duvall as Roat.
Other cast members include Patrick Regner as Mike Talman and Jeffrey Baumgartner as Sgt. Carlino.
Leigh Selting, chair of the University of Wyoming’s Theatre and Dance Department, returns to the Dunes Summer Theatre to direct the play. Selting directed The Mousetrap (2017), and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee this summer. “I’m excited to bring this production to life at the Dunes Summer Theatre. It’s a challenging piece with a lot of special effects, and requires great timing from the actors, who don’t disappoint” said Selting. “It’s been a joy to work with this talented cast and crew.”
