Megan Applegate
Applegate and Company

Megan is a Michigan City High School graduate and Michigan City native. She is a graduate of Purdue University where she received her Bachelor of Science of Accounting from the Krannert School of Management. Next, Megan moved on to receive her Master of Science in Accounting from Indiana University. Post-graduation, Megan sat and passed all parts of the Uniform CPA Exam. After her master’s Megan became a Business and Financial Analyst for the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

In January of 2014, Megan rejoined Applegate & Company for good to work alongside her father and brother, Paul and Blake.

Outside of Applegate & Company, Megan is a volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Responder for the Long Beach Fire Department. She’s a board member of the MC Rotary Club, the MC Chamber of Commerce, the PNC College of Business Advisory Board, the HealthLinc Regional Advisory Committee and the Lakefront Career Network (LCN).


Shannon Denny
MonoSol, LLC

Shannon grew up in Chesterton, Indiana. She graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art– Chicago where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts – Visual Communication. Upon graduation, she worked for the Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago as a Design Coordinator. After her time at the Institute of Art, Shannon moved on to Purdue University – Calumet where she worked as a Graphic Designer in the Communications Department. After her two years of experience at Purdue University – Calumet, Shannon began her next step in her career at Valparaiso University as an Associate Director of Creative Services. Shannon worked at Valparaiso University over seven years and contributed to the rebranding of Valparaiso University. While working at Valparaiso University, Shannon earned her Masters of Science in Digital Media Production. After her time at Valparaiso University, Shannon accepted an offer as a Media and Communications Specialist for MonoSol, LLC located in Merrillville, Indiana.

Outside of work, Shannon enjoys spending time with family and friends as well the outdoors. She’s a committee member of the Boys and Girls Club of Porter County and has been active with the Lakefront Career Network.


Katie Eaton
Economic Development Corporation Michigan City (EDCMC)

Katie is a lifelong resident of the Michigan City area. She has a strong passion for this growing and vibrant community. Katie currently serves as the Economic Development Manager at the EDCMC where she spends her time working with local businesses to help them grow and thrive in our city. Katie’s past work experiences include workforce development, nonprofit management, community development, program management, recruitment, fundraising, and marketing.

Katie is a graduate of Michigan City Area Schools and attended Purdue University Northwest where she graduated with her Bachelor’s degree and later received her Master’s in Business Administration. Katie has served as a board member of the Purdue Northwest Alumni Community for several years where she has held roles as both Vice President and President. She is currently a member of the Michigan City Rotary Club, the Indiana Economic Development Association, and Women in Leadership La Porte County. Katie is happy to be serving on the Lakefront Career Network’s Executive Committee and is proud of the work this group is doing. Katie also volunteers for the Michigan City Salvation Army, Junior Achievement of La Porte County, Michigan City Mainstreet Association, and other organizations in the community. Katie is married to Jeff Eaton and they have three children together. As a family, they enjoy running, bicycling, attending baseball games, music, and outdoor activities.


Jordan Gallas
Micky Gallas Properties

Jordan was born and raised in the Long Beach/Michigan City area. Jordan attended Notre Dame Grade School and Marquette High School. He went on to Indiana University-Bloomington where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in SportsManagement and Business.

Upon graduation, Jordan took a Sales position with a Communications company in Chicago. After two years, he decided to return to his hometown and became a Real Estate Broker with Micky Gallas Properties. Jordan has become a Multi-Million Dollar producer for the company and a top agent in the area. Jordan uses youthful energy, technology, and familiarity with Northwest Indiana to provide the best possible service for his clients to make their Real Estate transaction stress free and enjoyable.

Jordan is a very active member of the Michigan City Community. When not helping clients, Jordan is the Head Golf Coach and Assistant Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at Marquette Catholic High School where he was part of the 2014 State Championship and 2015 State Runner’s Up Basketball teams. Jordan is a Member of the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of the Lakefront Career Network.

In his spare time, Jordan enjoys golfing, going to the beach, and spending time with family and friends. Jordan is engaged to fellow LCN Founding Member, Bridgette Crowe. They currently reside in Sheridan Beach with their dog Boomer.


Bill Gertner
Horizon Bank

Bill is a Chicago native who moved to the Michigan City area in 1991. He graduated from Purdue University in 2004, and became a licensed real estate sales person in the State of Indiana. That same year, Bill started his banking career at Horizon Bank. After holding several key positions in retail management, he assimilated to the position of Assistant Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer. Bill is currently responsible for commercial lending and business development at Horizon’s corporate location in Michigan City, Indiana. Throughout his 13 + years of banking experience, Bill has had extensive experience in consumer lending, business lending, business development, hiring and development of sales staff. During this time, he was also responsible for two successful bank acquisitions in which he facilitated training and development.

Bill is extremely self-motivated and goal oriented. These values are a priority for him and are displayed within the professional as well as the personal environment. In recognition of Bill’s commitment to the community, he recently received the 2017 Burton B Ruby Community Service Award. In support of these efforts, he continues to work with various non-profit community groups including the United Way, Rotary Club, Junior Achievement, and the YMCA.


Anthony Novak, Chair
Newby, Lewis, Kaminski & Jones

Anthony is a native of Michigan City and a graduate of Michigan City High School. While in high school, Anthony won the 2006 Indiana State Golf Championship. He went on to Ball State University, where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration (cum laude) and was a four-year member of the Men’s Golf Team. Upon graduating from Ball State, he attended law school at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. Anthony passed the Indiana Bar Exam in 2014.

After being away from the area for his undergraduate and graduate studies, Anthony happily returned to the area in August of 2014 when he began working at the law firm of Newby, Lewis, Kaminski & Jones. He focuses his practice on Real Estate, Estate Planning, and Business Practice.

Beyond work, Anthony is on the board of the Lakefront Career Network and the Barker Woods Enrichment Center, and is also a mentor in the Hours for Ours program.


Kristen Patterson
TRIO Educational Talent Search
Purdue University Northwest

Kristen Patterson was born and raised in Michigan City and is a graduate of Michigan City High School. After graduating, Kristen attended University of Nebraska, Lincoln and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English. She spent seven years teaching middle school English and serving as department chair in Las Vegas before returning back to Michigan City where she was the director of Grace Learning Center, as a part of Citizens Concerned for the Homeless.

Currently, Kristen is the Program Coordinator for TRIO Educational Talent Search at Purdue University Northwest on the Westville Campus. There she works to implement programs that guide first generation and low income students into college.

When not working, Kristen spends much of her time volunteering throughout the community. She is a board member for Leadership LaPorte County, Interfaith Community PADS, and Lakefront Career Network. Kristen has two dogs and is a foster mother and respite care provider.


Alison Zoll
Blue Chip Casino Group

Alison is a La Porte High School Graduate and City of La Porte native. She graduated from Indiana University – Bloomington with a B.S. Degree in Sports Management.

Following graduation, Alison moved to Indianapolis, IN where she spent a short time interning with the Indianapolis Colts organization before beginning her career in hospitality at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. Upon advancing from the Front Office staff to the Sales & Catering team, Alison became the Business Transient & Travel Coordinator for all VIP & long term business guests.

Three years later, Alison returned to La Porte and began her career at Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa as the Convention Sales Coordinator where she planned and executed group conventions, meeting & social events. Today she is one of Blue Chip’s Group & Catering Sales Managers handling the National Corporate market.

Alison is a Michigan City Chamber ambassador in addition to her new role as a Lakefront Career Network committee member. She loves to spend her free time outdoors hiking, kayaking and biking with her husband Cody and two dogs Penny & Chance
